Confirm You're Eligible
Make sure you meet Florida's basics: at least 18 years old, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid U.S. Social Security number. You don't need to be a Florida resident or U.S. citizen to apply.
A prior criminal history doesn't automatically disqualify you — the DBPR reviews these case-by-case, so it's worth applying and being transparent.

Complete the 63-Hour Pre-License Course
Florida requires a state-approved 63-hour pre-licensing course for the sales associate license. Take it in the classroom or online, then pass the end-of-course exam with at least 70% to earn your certificate (valid two years).

Get Fingerprinted
Florida requires an electronic Livescan fingerprint background check before your license is issued. Use Fieldprint Florida — the Florida-specific portal that channels your prints directly through FDLE to the DBPR. Schedule a few days before you submit your application, and bring two forms of ID.

File Your DBPR Application
Submit your Sales Associate application (Form DBPR RE 1) to the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation. File electronically for the fastest turnaround — approval typically takes about a week to ten days once your fingerprints and application are both in.

Pass the State Exam
Once approved, you'll receive an Authorization to Test. Schedule your exam through Pearson VUE. The sales associate exam is 100 multiple-choice questions, and you need at least 75% to pass. The exam fee is about $36.75 per attempt.

Activate Your License with Apex
Congratulations — you passed! Your license is issued inactive until you affiliate with a sponsoring broker. File Form DBPR RE 11 to activate it under Apex Gulf Group, and you're officially in business. Within your first renewal period, you'll also complete a 45-hour post-licensing course.
